Grace Thomas
Grace is a transgender woman, married to her high school sweetheart, Cindy, for 46 years. She has 3 adult children, including two gay sons, as well as 4 grandchildren, 3 of whom are adopted. She lives with her wife in Lancaster, South Carolina. Though identifying as a transgender woman, Grace lives a gender fluid life, presenting as female about 50% of the time and as male when sharing spaces with her wife, Cindy. This “shared sacrifice” provides the current framework in which Grace is able to pursue authentic connection and service to others as a woman while still pursuing her half century relationship with her wife Cindy.
Grace is a retired minister of 32 years as well as a semi-retired accountant specializing in churches and non-profits. She currently dedicates the majority of her time to working with parents of LGBTQ children, helping parents embrace and love their LGBTQ children with the unconditional love of Jesus. She co-leads a weekly support group for parents and serves on the parent team for Q Christian Fellowship (QCF). She helps create and provide content for QCF’s annual Parent Summit and is a frequent participant in panels designed to shed light on the trans experience for parents or other groups.
She is a member of the service team for Embracing the Journey (ETJ), an outreach to conservative Christian parents of LGBTQ children designed to help parents love their LGBTQ children well. Grace has also completed the Ambassador Cohort training with The Reformation Project (TRP) and serves as an Ambassador for TRP to Churches/Individuals seeking to expand their inclusion of LGBTQ individuals. She is a Board member with Affirming Therapy, a non-profit organization set up to raise funds to provide low-cost counseling for members of the LGBTQ community. When not connecting with individuals or groups on the topic of loving LGBTQ people, she enjoys playing with her grandchildren, board games, going to the movies, deep conversations with friends, and traveling with her wife, Cindy.
