Empower Yourself: Navigate

the First 90 Days After Your Child Comes Out

Expert Guidance for a Journey of Understanding

It can be incredibly overwhelming and shocking to have your child come out to you. It brings with it so many mixed emotions and uncertainty.

The very first thing I want you to know is that your feelings are normal and valid.  It’s disorienting to know your child and then have them share something about themselves that you hadn’t previously known.

You might find yourself wondering where God is in it all and replaying past moments over and over again, wondering what’s been real and true. Shock has a way of doing that to us. It’s also natural to have questions and concerns about what this means for your child and your family.

Our Free book “The First 90 Days” will help guide and anchor you.

Excerpt from the Book…

Parents, you are the most important person in your child’s life.  I know this time for you is very confusing, painful and lonely. To hear the words from your son, or daughter that they are LGBTQ launches you into your own grief process.  But do not lose hope, this place won’t always feel so dark and painful.  This book is for you because of the deep importance that you walk through this grief to the other side.

You have more power than anyone else to help your child find peace and happiness in this world, or to experience torment and pain. Your reaction to your son, or daughter being lesbian, gay, transgender, bi-sexual or questioning will have the greatest impact on their life – more than anyone else. But the truth is, it’s not easy news to get and your ability to process this is deeply important.

Quotes from Parents who have Read the Book

When a child comes out as LGBTQ, we often forget that the parents themselves go through journeys of their own. They may find themselves grieving over the loss of the hopes and dreams they have had for their children since birth. Unfortunately, there aren't many resources written from a Christian perspective to help the parents on their journeys. This is why I wholeheartedly recommend Candice M. Czubernat's The First 90 Days: A Christian Devotional Guide for Parents of LGBTQ Children. This valuable book offers the space and tools needed for parents to process their emotions during this time of transition - Christy W

This book is an invaluable resource for parents. Candice gives voice to the grief, questions, and range of feelings that parents experience when their children come out to them. It is like she is sitting in the room with you and giving expression to what is in your heart. She offers parents permission and space to experience their range of emotions while at the same time, she helps parents know how to journey alongside their children and to love them well. As a parent for whom this book is written, and as a minister, I have referred this book to other parents, to be a source of comfort and hope for them - Eva SK
